Menzies Support Services is super excited to announce a new initiative "The Dame"

The Dame is a community-integrated and connected pop-up vintage, retro, new and recycled boutique clothing store stocking children’s teen, adult and everything in between clothing items, bespoke upcycled, recycled and new homewares and gifts.

This program, operated by Menzies, will support NDIS, return to work placements and trainees through our partnerships, providing them with meaningful and engaging connection with the community whilst gaining life and pre-work skills within a safe and supportive retail environment.

Menzies has partnered with Foundation Murrindindi as a suitable value-aligning Not-for-Profit Community Service, bolstering Menzies delivery of responsive and effective support programs. Our friends from Foundation Murrindindi have leased the property 88A Grant Street Alexandra in the heart of town, and we are subletting the shop-front from them.

The Dame philosophy is promoting inclusiveness and support for persons with disabilities and those who require a safe environment to regain self-confidence, self esteem and the necessary work skills to re-enter the workforce after disconnection, whilst reducing stigma and creating positive relationships within the community.

We will launch The Dame on the week of the Alexandra Truck, Ute and Rod Show to capture the enormous foot traffic and street-front exposure.

There will be a BIG call for donations of clothing, etc. to set up the shop, and we are happy to accept these donations now. Please feel free to spread the word, as there has been a buzz around town already with many people asking "What's happening in there?"

The name ‘The Dame’ maintains the connection with Dame Pattie Menzies who was born in Alexandra, lobbied, campaigned and became the patron of Dame Pattie Menzies Centre in 1980 after the purchase of "The Mount".

More news about this fantastic community initiative will come via local media, the Menzies website and social media.
